SHOOK thinks

What would SHOOK School look like?

The last set of schoolkids go back next week. It got us thinking how we’d design a school if given the chance.

After all, up to 85% of jobs that will exist by 2030 haven’t been invented yet and the World Economic Forum cites creative problem solving as one of the key skills for the future.

With that in mind, here are three things that would be on the curriculum at SHOOK SCHOOL:

  1. General Curiosity Studies

A daily double period out of the classroom to explore things that interest you. They don’t have to be relevant or linked – the point is to get a wide palette of knowledge. Knowledge for knowledge’s sake, not for exams.

  1. Behaviour Design Technology

Lab work. An understanding of how to design to help people do the things they want to do. A superpower to boost their health, wealth and happiness.

  1. Personal Empathy (PE)

Regular field trips. Learning how to not only be interested in and understand other people, but actually put yourselves in their shoes and see things from their point of view.

We’ve already talked about the need for more people having more routes from schools into the creative industries. This could go a step further…maybe one day we’ll open SHOOK School…
